GrahamClayton: Back in 1999 Wallace played an internet blitz game against "Cambala", in which he missed a win based on a pin tactic.

Here is the position:

click for larger view

"Cambala" blundered with 53..♖d3??, but Wallace missed 54.♖b2+!, exploiting the pin on the c-file to win the rook on h2.

White lost on time a few moves later, and discovered that "Cambala" was none other than Garry Kasparov!

Apr-12-14  nummerzwei: <The Catalan has long been considered a dangerous weapon, however in recent years it has declined in popularity as White players follow the 'Kasparov' trend of trying to win the game with tactical complications right from the opening. However, I am predicting that the fashion is about to change!>

Dec-17-16  ozmikey: Might be worth adding to the bio that JPW (as he was commonly known in his playing days here in Oz) won the Australian Championship in 1994 aged only 17 - our youngest national champion as far as I know.
