MARC ANDRIA MAURIZZI
(born May-16-2007, 18 years old) France

[what is this?]

Grandmaster. Marc'Andria Maurizzi was born in Bastia, France. In 2019, he won the French junior championship for players under 12 years old. In July of that year, he secured the IM title at age 12 years and two months.

He scored his first two GM norms in Catalonia. In December 2020, Maurizzi placed first at the open tournament in Sitges, and two months later he clinched his second norm in Barcelona.

On May 21, 2021, Maurizzi secured his third GM norm at the GM tournament in Chartres. He also crossed the 2500 Elo mark and in doing so, he became the youngest French grandmaster in history at age 14 years and five days. He broke GM Etienne Bacrot's 24-year-old record by almost two months.

He won the World Junior Championship (2023) on tiebreak over three others, making him one of the youngest World Junior Champions in history.

MAURIZZI, Marc A.

May-21-21  SkySports: He got his last GM norm at the Chartres tournament (https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-t...) and he's now the youngest French GM of all times.
May-21-21  cro777: Marc Andria Maurizzi was born on 16 May 2007 in Bastia on Corsica (France). He started tournament chess at an early age and in 2017 and 2019 he won the European Youth Championships U10 and U12. When he was 12 years and 2 months old, he became an International Master.

In the last round of the 2nd Chartres GM 2021 tournament (in Chartres, France) Maurizzi met Kamran Shirazi with the black pieces:

Maurizzi accepted a quick draw (in 10 moves) which was enough for his third GM norm (6.5/9).

The idea of this Grandmaster tournament was to give members of the chess club Chartres a chance to get practice after the long break caused by the pandemic.

Troller: If chess-results are to be trusted he is Junior World Champion 2023. Congratulations!
Jan-26-24  stone free or die: Maurizzi seems to be on a good trajectory gaining ~100 ELO/year (needs doublechecking).

Being the leader after 11 rounds in Tata Challengers (2024) caught my attention.

Jan-27-24  Nezhmetdinov: Playing fine chess too. Smooth.

Jan-28-24  dehanne: <How old do you think Gukesh looks?> Typical Indian teenager.
Jan-28-24  stone free or die: His photo here is out of date - he's older and his hair is much darker. A recent photo can be found at the <Tata Challengers> page:

offramp: Is there a Corsican Defence? There must be one.

We could invent one; we could pull random moves from a hat.

Feb-24-25  vonKrolock: Isn't there already a <Bonaparte Opening> ?! (I remember reading something about this...)
