Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-20-05  PivotalAnorak: I checked on the FIDE site, Petursson is a GM (even though it seems he doesn't play anymore, just like other Icelandic GM's, like Johann Hjartarson for instance).
Apr-20-05  Halldor: He is a lawyer and active on the stock-market. He still plays occasionally in tournaments, mostly blitz for the fun. Very solid strategical player.
Dec-29-05  smeagol2005: Peturson is surely a great Icelandic chess player!
Jan-04-06  karlth: Petursson was always an extremely solid strategic player - who I always felt should have come from the Soviet chess school.

He rarely plays publicly today but is an extremely successful investment banker: http://www.mp.is/english/

Apr-06-12  wordfunph: the one and only book he wrote - King's Indian Defence Averbakh Variation published by Cadogan..

Oct-19-15  Conrad93: Ah, Petursson. The Averbakh specialist.
This guy has some impressive games with the line.

And he's played against both Karpov and Kasparov in their prime. Not many can say that.

eternaloptimist: GM Petursson did something that is really rare last year @ the Olympiad. He was the captain of the Icelandic 🇮🇸 team & he was a player on the team as well! The youngest member of the team was diagnosed w/ Covid the day before he was supposed to leave Iceland & go to the Olympiad. GM Petursson took his place as the reserve player & got 1 win & 2 draws
