Konstantin Zaivelevich Lerner was born in Odessa, USSR. He was awarded the IM title in 1978 and the GM title in 1986. Lerner finished second in the 1984 USSR Championship and equal second in the 1986 event. He also won or shared first in Polanica Zdroj 1985 and 1986, Tallinn 1986 and Moscow 1986. Lerner died in Hertzlia, Israel on September 24, 2011.

  alexmagnus: Chessmetrics has him at #15 at one point? On FIDE ratings he never exceeded number 41, and they cover his Chessmetrics peak too. So much for the comparability of the two systems.
