Kenneth William Lynn was born in Auckland, New Zealand. He learned to play chess at the age of ten and was New Zealand Correspondence Champion in 1972-73. He was also joint New Zealand Senior Champion (shared with Robert Stronach Mitchell) in 2005. His tactical style is reflected in his favourite players, Frank James Marshall and Mikhail Tal. He is a FIDE Instructor (2005).
