Dec-29-08  Crocomule: Is this the subtle endgame composer?
Jan-11-12  DoctorD: I would not call Baja a "subtle" composer; he did compose a number of snappy studies and mate problems in the 1970s and 80s. He seems to have only published in U.S. sources; if he had wanted to compete internationally, he certainly could have done so.

This was given as a "White to play and win," in Chess Life and Review, January 1980, it is actually a mate in six:

1. Rxd6+! - work out the rest on your own; a clue, another piece is thrown into the works.

I enjoyed this one, from Chess Life and Review, January 1977, the best.

And to end, here is a mate in two from the February 1977 issue of CL and R:

Jul-21-13  Crocomule: Thank you doctor!
Jul-22-13  Crocomule: Do you know anything about A.S. Seletzky? His 1st prize in the magazine 64 in 1936 is incredible. He's not in Testtube Chess or Wiki!?

perfidious: Never been a fan of studies, but the problem published in 1977 has an elegant conclusion.
Jul-22-13  BlackFront: Yes, I could never solve any of them either.

This is the only thing I've been able to google so far, but it was in Dutch, so I'm not sure.

Jul-23-13  Crocomule: Thanks Alchemist! No, but that one is also fantastic. The other I found in Lommer's 2nd collection of endgame compositions.
Jul-23-13  nok: A competent goalkeeper, too.
