  FSR: No wonder he doesn't dare defend the world championship!
Aug-07-22  Goldrider: FSR: Magnus is, so far, +5-0=2 at the Chess Olympiad, including a mate on the board against a 2300 player. So, he’s still playing very well.

On to this game. Moves played on the board are in brackets <like this>

<1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nc6>

The Sicilian Taimanov, which was the opening Judit Polgar played as Black in the famous Shirov vs. Judit Polgar Argentina 1994 game.

<5. Nc3 Qc7 6. Be3 a6 7. Qd2 Nf6 8. f3 Be7 9. O-O-O b5 10. g4 Nxd4 11. Bxd4 Bb7 12. e5>

12. e5 is a novelty. Usually 12. Kb1 or 12. g5 are played.

<12... Nxg4 13. Rg1 Nh6>

13. fxg3 would had led to White losing her bishop. 13...Bxf3!? leads to a lot of tactical complications for Black, e.g. 14. Bg2 Bxg2? 15. Qxg2

<14. Bd3 Bf8>

14...O-O would had allowed White to mate Black, e.g. 14... O-O? 15. Rxg7+ Kxg7 16. Rg1+ Ng4 17. Rxg4+ Kh8 18. Qh6 Bg5+ 19. Rxg5 Qxc3 20. Qg7#

<14... Bf8 15. Be4 Rc8?>

15...Rc8 is a blunder which costs Black his queen; Carlsen could had resigned at this point.

Sep-08-22  stone free or die: <HMM> if you look at the PGN these days there should be a Source tag - which is kinda self-documenting:

<[Source "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Acp..."]>

.

Sep-08-22  stone free or die: Yeah, I see <Fred> is back, and I'll wish him a qualified welcome back.

Since his forum is closed for comment...

Back of the qualification is my request he delete his list of Z socks - it's inaccurate and involves other members of <CG> slanderously.

Clean up your profile page please.

(If you insist to list then publicize your ignore-list, without slandering innocent <CG> members.)

  fredthebear: No, not bored. Having multiple interests, ol' FTB is never bored but the irony of the pseudo-pun is noted.

It was a beautiful moon-lit night and I was up late foiling crime at our neighbors. Having called the police on two different incidents, FTB took a crime watch break to read up on Carlsen's ongoing slide. He's no longer invincible; focusing on 2900 has not gone well.

What a phony welcome back imposter Z. Slander?? Innocent?? Let such a wronged person make their own convincing case to me. Your allegations sound like Carlsen whining -- just sour grapes.

Once again, the imposter Z has shown that Z is always, always in FTB's business and CG allows Z to do it. STOP trolling me, and STOP telling others what to do on here.

  perfidious: <fredthebore> has returned, as so often, in the third person.

In any case, he will not be allowed to sully my viewing pleasure.

  FSR: <HeMateMe: Is this game real? Documentation?>

I submitted the game, with as <stone free or die> noted, the source tag https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Acp.... <fredthebear> gave a couple more. But since you say you don't click on links anymore, these presumably won't be of much use to you.

  Teyss: Long live the Queen puns. Nice Tuesday puzzle after 15...Rc8? Not Monday because there's no Q sac, quite the opposite.

Did Carlsen walk out of the tournament after this loss to a player who retired 8 years ago? Oh, it was a once-off.

Nov-18-22  stone free or die: <Messiah: Whoops! :-)>

Let's assume you're referring to this boring post

Polgar vs Carlsen, 2022 (kibitz #12)

in which case you're correct.

Jan-22-23  Granny O Doul: I finally dug up the precursor game I remembered from Lombardy's "Modern Chess Opening Traps": 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 a6 5. Nc3 e6 6. Be2 Qc7 7. f4 Nxd4 8. Qxd4 Ne7 9. Be3 b5 10. O-O-O Nc6 11. Qd2 Bb7 12. Bf3 Rc8 ("One should not construct a castle in the middle of the road--particularly the road needed for the queen's retreat") 13. Bb6. I couldn't figure out who played the game, though (most if not all the examples from the book are actual games with the players anonymized).
