Apr-01-22  Brenin: Now that's a mating pattern I don't recall seeing before.

Breunor: 25 c4 looks weird to me, the black d pawn looks dangerous. Why not take it?

An Englishman: Good Evening: Astonishing mating patter. Note that the Black Queen is superfluous in the final position. Another weird pattern--after move 27 with Nc1, Qd1, Ne1, Pd2, Pd3, Nd4. Very strange to behold.

Used to win a lot of games in blitz with this variation after 8.0-0, but Black's performance shows that my opposition back then was not that great. Then again, always played 9.d3; maybe that move was superior.

Apr-01-22  Brenin: <Breunor>: I agree, 25 c4 looks odd, and Nxd4 or cxd4 would have been better. However, I think White could have survived if he had followed 25 c4 with an immediate 26 d3, though that creates an ominous hole at e3. After 26 Rb1 d3 he was in serious trouble.

ChessCoachClark: Indeed, the mating pattern is notable, as few Pawn mates are extant. However, I slightly disagree that the Black Queen is superfluous in the final position. The Black Queen is crucial in the mating process, which is far more important for a chess learner and is inclusive of the final position. It would be good for CG to run a full game analysis with Stockfish on this game!

Korora: Looks (to me at least) like Eising was hurting from the moment Schneider's ♙s started hounding the ♘, thereby delaying his [Eising's] further development.
