Jan-18-21  luzhin: 26...Ba3!! is the killer. Point is if 27.bxa3 b2+ 28.Kc2 Qb3+ 29.Kd2 c3+

bright1: <luzhin> I actually think in your variation that after 29. Kd2 instead of c3+ the stronger move is Qb3-c3+ which wins the rook on d4
Jan-19-21  MordimerChess: This was the best, double-edged game of Round 2 Tata Steel chess tournament. There are a couple of insane lines, including queen sacrifice one. Extremely enjoyable game!

Jan-21-21  AvidChessMan: After 16. ...exd5 it was obvious how this game was to proceed. Blacks a thru d pawns attack!

HeMateMe: love black's active play here. He never did castle or move his kingside Rook!
Jan-27-21  Jambow: Why not 28... a1 and promote?

If 28...a1=Q then 29.Bb4 Bxb4 30.Rxa1.

Jan-28-21  pdxjjb: <perfidious> Stockfish recommends 15 dxc5 rather than d5. If you follow that with the chess engine, it looks more like the boring draw we all expect from a QGD between GMs. An example is 15. dxc5 Nxc5 16. h4 Rc8 17. Kb1 Na4 18. Qd3 Qxd3+ 19. Bxd3 Rd8 20. Be2 Nxc3+ 21. Bxc3 Rxd1+ 22. Bxd1 which is looking pretty drawish to me.

I wonder whether Donchenko recognized this and opted to push d5 to create some fireworks, kind of like a mini-sacrifice ... a sacrifice of position.
