saffuna: Queen sacrifice with 39...Qh1+. Seems there is too much traffic for the rook on h8 to play a part, but after 41..Bxe3 it joins the mating attack.
Dec-20-20  Granny O Doul: What's really neat is that there are several different mating patterns, depending on how White plays in the final position.

That's true, but also understandable.

We automatically look at all the games among the top-rated players. But there are hundreds of games like this one played between players in the 2400-2600 range. Unless you are playing through dozens of games every couple of days, it's not so easy to find the exciting ones.

Well, it’s a pretty finish but... Black is lost after 30 moves and then white goes wrong and loses to a nice combination in the end.

To me Dubov-Karjakin is a bit underestimated compared to this game. Two 2700s vs two 2400s, not as big mistakes, and over all a better game with deeper sacrifices.

But that doesn’t exactly make this game unworthy of attention :-)

Fair enough! I certainly did not intend to imply that the aforementioned Dubov-Karjakin game was not amazing either. It's quite on my radar as well. In fact, it seems it was on a lot of people's radar as it was deemed game of the year by many.

<But that doesn't exactly make this game unworthy of attention :-)> It's refreshing to see another kibitzer who doesn't automatically write off games that were played by women and/or between players who aren't super grandmasters. Well said.
