Kibitzer's Corner
May-06-20  Omnipotent00001: 47.b4 the 9000 I.Q. move
May-06-20  SirChrislov: blk's set-up is just so compromised, the Q can't leave g6, his pawns can't roll, the Bishop is trapped. It's just beautiful how the a-pawn just runs free.
May-06-20  SirChrislov: 49.g5 brilliant hindrance. no nasty checks from the black queen, now the a-pawn just takes off.

<Omnipotent> 47.b4 could be the move of the tournament so far.

  Diademas: Strange things happens when you present the position to Stockfish after 47.b4. It gives <1) =0.00 (29 ply) 47...axb3 48.a4 h5 49.a5 hxg4 50.Qh4+ Kg8 51.Qd8+ Kh7 52.Qh4+>

Than literally two plys later, after 47...axb3 48.Bb2 it gives <1) +12.3 (24 ply) 48...h5 49.g5 Kg8 50.a4 Qf7 51.Qxf7+ Kxf7 52.a5 Ke7 53.a6 Bb1 54.a7 Kd6 55.a8=Q Ba2 56.Bxg7 Kc5 57.Kxd3 Kd6 58.Qf8+ Kc6 59.Qe8+ Kd6 60.Qxh5 Bb1+ 61.Kc3 Bc2 62.Qg4 Kc7 63.Qd4 Kc6 64.Qc4+ Kd6> with a depth 5 plys less.

I don't get it.

Diademas: Could black have saved it by playing 47...Bb3?
May-07-20  spingo: Aronian seems to be playing better than ever.
May-11-20  syracrophy: After 29. ♖xc5??

Black missed a golden chance of punishment for White: 29...d3! 30. ♖c3 ♖xc5 31. ♖xc5 ♖c8 32. ♗e3 ♖xc5 33. ♗xc5 d2! 34. ♕c2 d1=♕+ 35. ♕xd1 ♕xc5+ -+ and Black emerged up a piece.
