Dec-28-18  breakbad: lol
poor carlsen
Dec-28-18  siggemannen: 20.Ne6 was better. Carlsen got a good position but messed up and lost his queen

Diademas: 32...d4 is such a cool move.

Young Vokhidov ended up with 8.5/15 and gained 129 rating points, but I guess manhandling the WC like this will be his most cherished memory from this tournament.

An Englishman: Good Morning: According to Barden in the Guardian, 20.Ne8 would have won material.

yes. 20.Ne8 Ra8?! 21.Nxg7 Kxg7 22.Bxh6+! leaves black down a pawn and the exchange. After 20.Ne8 black's best seems to be ...Rxe8 21.Qxb8 d5 22. Qxa7 Qf6 . Black is still down a pawn and exchange (3 points to the negative, still losing) but has the 2 bishops. The line with ..Ra8?! is worse, since after 22...Kxh6 23.Qxf8+ Kh7 24.Rfe1 Bb7 25.Qe7 black will drop still another pawn and may as well resign.

I suppose the occasional junk opening keeps things fresh for the players. Thanks to on-line tournaments, they play so often nowadays.
