Mar-02-14  offramp: <RedShield: Mean Queens? What the heck are mean queens? Was the Claremont Chess Club integrated? If not, I think this game should have an asterisk appended to it. Otherwise it should be boycotted.> Even if it was blacks only?

I also have no idea what means mean queens means.

Mar-02-14  ndg2: Mr. A. N. Rubinstein has exactly one entry - this game - in the CG database.
Mar-02-14  RedShield: <<RedShield: Mean Queens? What the heck are mean queens? Was the Claremont Chess Club integrated? If not, I think this game should have an asterisk appended to it. Otherwise it should be boycotted.> Even if it was blacks only?>

Especially if it was black only! It doesn't matter that black Africans never played chess before the arrival of whites, it only matters to the extent that they are not playing it since.

Incidentally, a black Rubinstein? Yeah, good one.

<I also have no idea what means mean queens means.>

I suspect it's playing into the worst stereotype of homosexuals as bitchy and narcissistic. Yet another reason to boycott this thread.

Mar-02-14  morfishine: <RedShield> Or it could be a crude, elementary attempt at rhyming

Mar-02-14  erniecohen: <Pboni Benoni, Master of Defense> Isn't it over after 32. ♕e8+ ♔xe8 33. ♖e3+ ♔d7 34. ♖xe2?

<RedShield> You're kidding, right? And exactly how do you boycott a chess game?

Mar-02-14  offramp: <RedShield: ...Incidentally, a black Rubinstein? Yeah, good one.>

There is a well-known black Goldberg.

Mar-02-14  RedShield: <Or it could be a crude, elementary attempt at rhyming>

Could be Hong Kong Phooey. From now on, they should just let me do the daily pun, because I'm, like, specially gifted, right?

Mar-02-14  RedShield: <<RedShield> You're kidding, right? And exactly how do you boycott a chess game?>

Good question. You can't refuse to buy its produce or ignore its academic conferences. I suppose one could simply stop posting here, but discussing the merits of a boycott is always more satisfying than actually enforcing one.

Mar-02-14  Delboy: RedShield, South Africa's past is unforgivable, but asking people to avoid a game by two South African unknowns 20 years after the lifting of all boycotts is a bit extreme. Chess history cannot be changed. Most people hate what Alekhine and Fischer stood for, but still enjoy their games.
Mar-02-14  whiteshark: Who's this RedChild anyhow?
Mar-02-14  RedShield: <South Africa's past is unforgivable>

Is it? I would call it understandable. A European settler people outnumbered by the less civilised natives could hardly be expected to share their nascent wealth. See the history of modern Israel, or the United States, or the British Empire.

AylerKupp: <whiteshark> RedChild is a progeny of the former Soviet Union.
Mar-02-14  Howard: Is it my imagination or has there been a trend in the last 3-4 weeks of the GOTD being a simul game, a casual one, and/one between two relatively unknown players.

Seems like it.

Yeah, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the playing pieces.

Mar-02-14  WhiteRook48: Incredible. White has two queens on the board AND THEY'RE BOTH COMPLETELY USELESS TO HIM. Whoever Winkler was, he was pretty good at this.
Mar-02-14  RookFile: Looks like the Fonz was having happy days in this game.

Domdaniel: < And exactly how do you boycott a chess game?> You can boycott an opening. I haven't played 1.e4 since the 1970s.

<RedShield> is trying to be controversial again. It's a silly strategy.

Gregor Samsa Mendel: <RedShield>--so you think the apartheid system of old South Africa was understandable? One of your previous incarnations, User: BobCrisp, was apparently named after a South African cricketer who was opposed to apartheid, although not exactly a supporter of racial equality.
Mar-03-14  Cheapo by the Dozen: Amazing that White would up with a material DISADVANTAGE before the end.

kevin86: Both sides queen- but only black wins!
Mar-04-14  Moszkowski012273: Awsome game! But the fact that Black missed 13...Nxd4 does tarnish it a little.
Mar-05-14  Moszkowski012273: I take the "awsome" part back,,, this game (while instructive) is FILLED with horrible moves.
Mar-06-14  offramp: Naught's had; all's spent.
Mar-06-14  Gilmoy: <erniecohen> And exactly how do you boycott a chess game?> Stand on your chair and speak loudly!
