Nov-26-13  fisayo123: Looking at some of MVL's games, it's clear to me that he's a tactical genius.

If he can get more refined in the opening, there's no reason why he can't challenge Carlsen.

sleepyirv: Going through the middlegame, I was shocked to discover the game lasted long enough to get into the endgame.

It reminds me the Harry Pillsbury quote, “So set up your attacks that when the fire is out, it isn’t out."

<fisayo123: Looking at some of MVL's games, <<<it's clear to me that he's a tactical genius>>>.>

Yes, MVL is a <TACTICAL GENIUS>.

Sometimes I wonder who is the <WORLD'S STRONGEST TACTICAL PLAYER>, if such a thing really exists. IMHO the candidates for this title are

1) Aronian
2) Mamedyarov
3) MVL

<iking: tactics everywhere for LaGrave .... nice rook-pawn >

All of MVL's games are like that, full of tactical blows.

In one issue of CEWN, one of the authors wrote <<<"Maxime never misses such tactical tricks">>>, commenting on the fantastic tactical finish of this game: M Vachier-Lagrave vs A Moiseenko, 2013.

See my detailed annotations in that forum for my analysis of MVL's stupendous <TACTICAL PLAY>.

Game Collection: MAXIME NEVER MISSES SUCH TACTICAL TRICKS -- CEWN

Nov-27-13  Moszkowski012273: Black could of drew with a timely 23...Bh6
Dec-05-13  abstract: 23.. Bh6 can be replied by Qc2
Dec-05-13  Moszkowski012273: Which could of been answered by 24...e6
Dec-07-13  abstract: then 24.Nxe6 and black loses two pawns..

(23...Bh6 24.Qc2 e6 25.Nxe6 Nxe6(25...fxe6 26.Qxc5 Qxc5 27.Bxe6+ Kg7 28.Rxc5)26.Qxc7 Nxc7 27.Rxc7)

Dec-07-13  Moszkowski012273: Not true. (23...Bh6 24.Qc2, e6 25.Nxe6, fxe6 26.Qxc5, Qf7) Now we get a clearly won position for black instead of just a draw.
