  bright1: Very entertaining attacking game
Sep-24-13  luzhin: Note that if 16...Nxe7 17.Qxf6+ gxf6 18.Bh6 mate! The whole game feels as though Alexseev was channeling Morphy.

Messiah: U can't be serious that a different pun was chosen for this game, not the one I submitted.

May-09-21  newzild: Entertaining attack by White.
May-09-21  AlicesKnight: Agree with <luzhin> -something reminiscent of a 'Night at the Opera' in the Morphy-like finish.

Been there, done that. What was your pun?

It wasn't actually a pun, I admit. Let's forget it.

An Englishman: Good Morning: King Crusher refers to Black's last name, of course, but it might work on another level--one of the characters in Game of Thrones went by the nickname King Slayer.

Amazing attack, incidentally--White's persistence in trying to give check on d6 became quite amusing to anyone except the opponent.

May-09-21  catlover: At first, I thought the pun referred to one of our Chessgames regulars who posts annotated games.

This is a great GODT.

May-09-21  WorstPlayerEver: Terrible pun.

HeMateMe: Where did krush go wrong? GMs don't get mated like this.
May-09-21  RandomVisitor: <HeMateMe>4...cxd4 or 5...cxd4 were necessary. After 5...Nxe4, Krush was on her way to being krush-ed.
May-09-21  SChesshevsky: <Where did Krush go wrong?> Usually 3...Nd7 in this line is asking for a fight. But 5...Nxe4 is really asking for a fight.

Irina probably also ran into some bad luck here. First, by the cg database, seems she was unlucky enough to win a game with 5...Nxe4 in juniors.

Second, seems Alekseev made the Qxd4, Bb5 lines a major part of his rep v. the ...d6 Sicilian around 2012 and 2013. Guessing meaningful time was also spent on 3.Bb5 first lines. Wouldn't be surprised if he had most or maybe all of this outcome on his board at some point in prep.

Combination likely helped Krush get steamrolled. Maybe relatively quickly . So maybe less suffering. Would be interesting to know how much time Alekseev spent on the first 15 or 16 moves.
