Aug-25-13 | | csmath: In this game Svidler played weird, Andreikin played solid. 20. ...f5?! [overestimating position]
27. ...a5?! [natural but not a good move, 27. ...d5 is needed] 28. ...Kg8? [clear error, 28. ... d5 is still better] 29. ...Nd5?? [complete blunder setting up x-ray pin] Svidler overestimated his position and played weak defence coupled with outright blunder. Also Nigel Short was pretty much lost on this game and did not follow the game properly. |

 | | HeMateMe: Hard to believe someone as good as Svid blowing a position like this, that looked pretty symmetrical, very drawish. A lot of GMs would have shaken hands after move 12. |

Aug-25-13 | | Nerwal: <Hard to believe someone as good as Svid blowing a position like this, that looked pretty symmetrical, very drawish. A lot of GMs would have shaken hands after move 12.> I don't know. Obviously it was a very bad day for Svidler and those GMs have learned how to defend those types of positions, but still, symetrical positions with a slight space disadvantage and nothing concrete to do are awkward to play, especially in rapid play. For instance there is always the chance to suffer in a difficult knight endgame after all major pieces are gone. As Shereshevsky once wrote mistakes in this type of position are easy to make and hard to repair. <I just love it when people get -severely- punished for optimistically advancing their f-pawn and <EXPOSING> their king.> It's always a treat to see King's Indian players pushing automatically f7-f5 even when it's obviously very bad... Botvinnik used to think the same way about f5 although he played the Dutch, for he seemed to think white was seriously better in Botvinnik vs Bronstein, 1951 after 30. ♔g2, when the only difference between white's and black's position is that the black pawn stands at f5 and white's at f2... |

May-06-15 | | JohnDMaster: I do not understand why black does not play 22...Nxf4, the e6 pawn surely cannot be that much of a disadvantage for the black side, then we should see a hand shake and a split point soon. |
