Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-04-15  Marcelo Bruno: With this loss Walbrodt missed to be absolute first.
Nov-04-15  Marcelo Bruno: And the mate cannot be prevented:

1) if Black plays any Rook or the Bishop to e8, 27. Nh5#; 2) if 26. … Rh8, then 27. Ne2#.

A very beautiful mate net by Gottschall, the famous Anderssen's biographer.

wwall: Instead of 14...Ng7, perhaps Black could have survived with 14...Qxh4 15.Bxd6 Nxd6 16.Rxe3 Qxg3.

After 26.Kd2, Edward Winter, in his Chess Notes, said there were 3 ways to checkmate Black in one move. There are actually 6 ways: 26...Nc5 27.Ne2#; 26...Rh8 27.Ne2#; 26...Nb4 27.Ne2#; 26...Rae8 27.Nh5#; 26...Rfe8 27.Nh5#; and 26...c5 27.Ne2#.
