Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-03-12  Jafar219: Just brilliant.
Sep-03-12  rilkefan: Stockfish suggests the surprising 22...Nd3 as -2. The point is that if Bxd3 then the d6 pawn can't immediately advance, and after ...Bxf5 the black queen either gets a good post on f5 or (if say Bf1) a6. Thus black has time to play ...Qd7 and free the rook to defend d8.

In view of the unpleasantness black ran into opening the kingside, it suggests 24...Qa6. Here after much thought it decides the black counterattack is -1.3 unless 25.Rxe6, which appears to be even. This all seems very difficult and surely needs deeper analysis than I can provide.

Sep-08-12  Hesam7: I am wondering why Black did not opt for the simple 13...c5! 14 Be2 b6 15 O-O Bb7 16 Rad1 Rd8 17 Rfe1 Nf8:

And Black should win this, although it may take some time.

HeMateMe: I love Mamster's chess. Some of his attacks are speculative but the best stuff is VG.

An Englishman: Good Evening: "Mamster." Lovin' it. Someone find a crazy Mamadyarov game for Hallowe'en and call it "The Mamster Mash."

And Rook, minor piece & P vs. Queen? Never not fun.

Sep-25-23  Messiah: Bad pun.
Sep-25-23  goodevans: Obviously Black plays <27...gxf5?> to avoid 28.Re7 and indeed after that White woud have been able to force promotion.

Depending on how White plays it Black would either have had to give up his R for the newly promoted Q or give up his Q for it plus one of White's Rs. Either way would have left a strange imbalance: White with extra firepower but just a couple of pawns vs Black with a solitary piece but an army of pawns. White probably wins out in the end but it would have been a hard slog.

I'm guessing Black missed <29.Rdg4!>. He seems to be able to survive against anything else but there's no coming back from that one.

Sep-25-23  sfm: Inspired game.

Black to move, after 22.Nf5:

22.-,Sd3+! as pointed 11 years ago by <rilkefan> is a winning move. White would then grab the knight on d3, instead of on c5. Same? Almost!

Black missed it, and after instead 22.-,Bxf5 23.Bxc5 it is

Black to move

He can not exchange bishops with 23.-,Bxc2 as 24.d7 wins instantly. So Black played 23.-,Be6, which is fairly equal.

But if Black had interposed 22.-,Sxd3+ 23.Bxd3, Bxf5 then 24.Bc5? would not work any more.

Black to move.

As Black now *can* exchange the bishop with 24.-,Bxd3. White can not play d6-d7, and on 25.Rxd3,Qf5 26.Rc3,a5 it is downhill for him.

Instead Mamedyarov went to create tactical winning chances (he is SO good at that!), and after 27.-,gxf5?? Black is lost, while 27.-,Bxf5 was OK.

OhioChessFan: Groaner of a pun, in a good way.
Sep-25-23  takchess: @ocf I think I submitted that groaner about 5 years ago .8)
