  OhioChessFan: Really nice pun.
Jul-09-23  YoungEd: Stockfish doesn't seem to hate the knight sac on move 13 too much, but it just looks to this unskilled player that it has to be a mistake.

beatgiant: <YoungEd> What I don't like is 18. d5. Before making a break like that, White should get his pieces in ideal positions.

Simply 18. 0-0 seems to leave White with at least enough compensation for the material. If Black also castles, the e-pawn becomes pinned and f5 will be strong. Because of that, it probably continues 18. 0-0 Nc6 19. Rad1.

With that preparation, d5 would become a serious threat and it seems like Black would either have to give back some material or go into a contorted Steinitzian defensive stance.

beatgiant: White still seems to be in the game until 26. Qe6, which Black answers by offering a queen trade and defusing the attack.

Instead, White has several other obvious ways to continue the attack, such as 26. Rab1 or 26. exf6 or 26. Bd4. For example, 26. Rab1 Qc7 27. Qd5 even looks close to winning for White.

HeMateMe: Hey, we've got an old movies theme going here! Thanks for the nice comments fellows.

This pun sat in my little offered collection for about four years without anyone grabbing it.

Jul-09-23  Granny O Doul: Black might have played for the cheap trap 4...Ne4 5. Nxe4 dxe4 6. e3 Qa5+.
Jul-09-23  nalinw: Man we have been waiting 34 years for that pun! This is the best pun week I can remember ....

  WannaBe: <OhioChessFan: Really nice pun.> Agree, 110% I'll have what <OCF>'s having.

Stockfish agrees with you. Then again, Tartakower wasn't playing a computer and <18.d5!?> induced the error <18...exd5?> (18...fxe5 was right) and after <19.Bxd5 Bb7> White could have won quickly with <20.Bg8!>.

There's no good way to avoid Rd1 and Qf7+ (order depending on what Black does). For example <20...Bf8 21.Rd1 Qe7 22.Bc5> and Black will lose his Q.

Another good pun, possibly the best, in a very good week for puns.

beatgiant: "I love that it takes you 32 moves to develop your queen's knight. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when I sacrifice a piece for unclear compensation. I allowed a queen trade because when you realize you want to play an endgame with somebody, you want the endgame to start as soon as possible."
