It's depressing for a patzer like me to see these kind of moves. Will I ever be able to understand chess?

<15.a3 <<<15.dxe5? Qxd1+!! 16.Nxd1 Bd3 wins the exchange>>>>

Note how this combination is possible only because of the great <LACK OF MOBILITY> of the boxed-in White b1-queen.

Oct-05-10  Quentinc: Why not 24.Qd2?
Oct-26-10  jerseybob: 24.Qd1 is a blunder, but after the better Qd2, 24..Na4 should win.
Dec-06-10  whiteshark: Wicked! What wild walkthrough. Wonder where White went wrong? Will watch world weather while waiting...
Dec-06-10  jrlepage: 24. Qd2 Na4 25.Kg2 seems to hold. And sacrificing on b2 (N or B) fails to mate threats or perp.
Dec-08-10  jerseybob: 25..Bf6 might be a way to keep the game going. But after 26.e4,Be6 27.Bd5,c5 28.Bxe6,fxe6 29.Qf4 who's winning?
May-28-11  Whitehat1963: An underappreciated game, I think.
Apr-24-12  notyetagm: Game Collection: DEFENDERS! DEFENDERS! DEFENDERS! THAT IS A DEFEN
Sep-29-15  RKnight: Another defense for black is 22...h4 23 Ra1+ Kh2 24 b3 Qe4 = (more or less)
May-06-17  Finnishplayer: I agree with Whitehat1963. This game is a gem.

PawnSac: in his bio Leitao is praised for playing like a machine, but in this case he was up against a supercharged engine

An Englishman: Good Evening: Objectively, 9.e3 is an acceptable move, but it feels much too passive to my taste compared with 9.d5. Life starts to go downhill when White allowed 12.Rd1. After that, Black's minors caused major trouble.

  Messiah: Terrible pun.
Sep-10-23  sudoplatov: Checking with Stockfish, it seems that after 24.Qd2, Be6 followed by ...Nc4 keeps Black's advantage.
Sep-10-23  goodevans: Fab play by Caruana.

<19.Nd2> was an ignominious move to have to make but was necessary to prevent 19…b3. <19.Nd4?> wouldn’t have worked. Black just takes it and White can’t take back.

At first I was thinking of "Ah, kumbaya".

In fact that is a good song. Would everyone here like to join me in a rousing chorus of that spiritual song?

Honza Cervenka: 22.Bxb7 was a mistake. 22.h4 would have been better.
