May-28-10  JohnBoy: Unless someone can show otherwise, it sure looks like black saw most of this at move 17.

Brilliant tactics!

May-28-10  hellopolgar: let's just say, Anish improved A LOT in the past year, while Tiger didn't.

if you look at this game(A Giri vs T Hillarp Persson, 2009) from last year, you'll see what i mean.

May-28-10  uscfratingmybyear: Is there any more dangerous opponent for an established GM to face than young Giri? Tactically fearless, he sacks pieces like Tal and seems to be growing in ability like a weed on steroids. Keep it up and he could be world champ in a few years.

HeMateMe: This looks like one of my horrible blitz games, with the white pieces. Somehow, moving out both pawn wings looks fundamentally incorrect. Game over, after the center gets opened up.
May-28-10  apexin: Goes into my collection, a great tactical display by Giri.
May-28-10  timothee3331: Well, of course it's a nice game but one should't forget that Black wins at least three pawns for the piece, with tremendous activity ! All of this was not difficult to foresee but aesthetic !
May-28-10  notyetagm: Holy @#$%.
May-28-10  notyetagm: Game Collection: Giri's Best Games
May-28-10  The Rocket: White played absolutely dreadful in this game
May-29-10  Atking: Dc Tarrasch would enjoy this game
May-29-10  wordfunph: Persson-Giri

engine smirked on 17...Nhf4 but was enough to rattle the defense of Perrson..

May-29-10  ozmikey: I doubt that Giri would have seen all the ramifications of the sacrifice, but two pawns, a magnificent knight on f4 and all White's pieces comprehensively tied up isn't bad compensation for a piece!
May-30-10  funkymihir: wow. anish is gonna be the best soon, i guarantee it
Jun-10-10  Ulhumbrus: 12 f3 may be intended to prevent 13...Nc5-e4 in reply to 13 d4. If so, Giri does not wait for 13 d4, but plays 12...e5 first.

An alternative to 12 f3 is 12 Bg2 and then on 12...e5 13 cd cd White has the check 14 Qb5+

For that matter, on 12 f3 e5 an alternative to 13 g5 is 13 cd cd 14 Qb5+

After 12 f3 e5 13 g5 Nh5 14 Rg1 Giri does not wait for 15 cd but plays 14...d4 first.

Mar-14-11  shuttlechess92: Brilliant
