OhioChessFan: Really nice pun . 57...Bxa6 was a nice endgame shot.

Agreed. It's basic but very effective and brought a smile to my face. I was never a Grunfeld expert but it seems to me they stayed 'in book' for a long time. Good game.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Nice example of how good defense sometimes requires extensive patience. Black needed a long time before he could seize the initiative.

Teyss: That's a standard Grunfeld alright. It's a choice to sac the exchange to get Black's DSB off the board in that opening, then Black's Kside is open. But then don't trade Queens, keep the tension on the board.

Revealingly 18.Rb1 preventing ...Qb6 fares better than 18.e5 where Black can try to remove the Queens: Opening Explorer

Jan-11-25  VerySeriousExpert: 14.d5? is the first White's blunder, 12.Bd3 is White's first not little mistake: 12.Bxf7+! is the best move. These players didn't read the blog https://jeromegambit.blogspot.com/ , certainly.

FSR: <VerySeriousExpert> 12.Bxf7+, the Seville Variation, is probably best, but Black still equalizes, e.g. F Rhine vs B Perez, 2024. The line with 14.d5 that Bhat chose is a storied variation that has been played hundreds of times. Opening Explorer. White gets enough compensation for the sacrificed exchange. White's first serious mistake was the natural 22.Nxb5?! According to Stockfish 17, 22.d6! (making White's e-pawn a passed pawn) exd6 23.Re1 would have been equal.

Thank you for your words! Yes, 14.d5 is a variation that has been played a lot of times. Well, it is better than it seems.

I played this once in CC for Black, ca 2000. My opponent lost his way and soon had no play for the exchange.

FSR: <perfidious> The exchange sac is OK, but no more. As you say, if White goes wrong he can end up just being an exchange down - as Bhat and your opponent can attest. Opening Explorer shows that 12.Bxf7+ gives White 30.8% wins, 50% draws, and 19.2% losses. In the exchange sac line, after 15...f6 it's 36.2% White wins, 33.8% draws, and 30% losses. Opening Explorer. So a 5.4% increase in White wins, but a 10.8% increase - exactly twice - in losses.
Feb-07-25  VerySeriousExpert: 65.Be7?? is strange.
