An Englishman: Good Evening: Nice imitation of Capablanca--45.g5! seals the Black King in an uncrackable prison and can only watch as Padron picks off pawns.

  al wazir: Tal missed an easy draw: 44...g5 45. Kxf3 Kf7 46. Ke4 Kf6.

I can't understand why Tal didn't play that. It's obvious that after 44...Kf7? 45.g5 black's h-pawn is doomed and almost as obvious that after 44...g5 his K-side would be safe as his K can get to f6/g6. A little less obvious, at least to me, is whether white can now drum up something on the Q-side but it's got to be better than the line Tal chose.

perfidious: After the suggestion of 44....g5, drawing this is no problem; Tal's king can always, as noted by <goodevans>, maintain position at f6/g6 and is able to stymie any tries on the other wing with ease.
Aug-18-20  Brenin: Not a bad scalp for a 19-year-old, playing in his home town, even if it took an elementary blunder by Tal to achieve it. I hope the local paper gave Padron a good write-up.

One of those groaner puns you have to like.

It's obvious that after 44...Kf7? 45.g5 black's h-pawn is doomed...>It could be that Tal had expected 45 Kxf3 where 45...Kf6 would also draw. It's really not uncommon for even an elite GM to miss such an easy move now and then, especially when playing an opponent that they might underestimate.

I can imagine Tal shaking his head after 45. g5 was played knowing that he probably just lost.
