It's funny but the move 26 was the first, out of book move, white had to play (other than Nd4 which would led to repetition).So with 26.Qa4 white didn't threw away anything for the simple reason that he hadn't done anything yet..

Jan-10-10  zanshin: <30.Nf3> might have been the last chance to save the game.
