fredthebear: White is joking around with seven consecutive pawn moves to start the game, a queen+, and then two more pawn moves. 12.Kf2 is the first of four White king moves that accomplish next to nothing.

White resigns on the 25th move to give IM Lane a victorious miniature (despite White technically having a back rank mate threat on the board). With 25...QxQg2+, Black has arranged a Remove the Defender position that eliminates the mate threat. Had the game continued, 26.KxQg2 is forced, when 26...BxNf3+ removes the White knight protecting the rook. White can play 27.Kf2 to protect the rook if desired, but 27...RxRe1 leaves Black up a piece regardless of who the White king captures.

The Black defender IM Lane is an acknowledged openings authority, having written numerous articles and books on various opening ploys, including unorthodox tries. Perhaps White was hoping for a long shot claim to chess fame. 2.a3 is not the way to go about it.
