GrahamClayton: Averbakh exchanges down to a bishops of same colour ending, where the black bishop is handicapped by its own pawns on white squares, whereas those same pawns are targets for the white bishop. Matanovic resigned as he will be placed in zugzwang and unable to prevent a decisive king invasion.

Jonathan Sarfati: Black's ♗ has only one square that defends both ♙a6 and ♙f5, and only one other square that defends the ♙a6. White's ♗ has a square on d3 where it attacks both ♙s, and two other squares that attack the ♙s6. So White can lose a move with his ♗ and place ♗lack in zugzwang:

42.♔c3 ♔c5 43.♗f1 ♗b7 44.♗e2 ♗c8 45.♗d3. Black must lose either his ♙a6 or ♙f5, or play 45...d4+ losing a different ♙ and giving White a passed ♙. This also has no chance, e.g.:

45...d4+ 46.exd4+ ♔d5 47.♗c4+ ♔e4 48.d5 ♔f3 49.d6 ♔xg3 50.♗xa6! ♗d7 51.♗b7.
