Apr-21-09 | | Jafar219: Mamedyarov rules! |
|
Apr-21-09 | | hellopolgar: i am just wondering here, how would Shakhriyar Mamedyarov feel if Alexander Grischuk started accusing him of cheating after this game... |
|
Apr-21-09 | | Jafar219: <hellopolgar> Mamedyarov wouldn`t care about that. |
|
Apr-21-09 | | euripides: Nice game by Mamedyarov. The four bishops with open diagonals produce a very volatile position so that after move 19 White's small advantage in time amounts to a dangerous initiative. |

Apr-21-09 | | Jim Bartle: Interesting comment. My first thought at about move 20 was "this is absolutely equal, neither can win." |

Apr-21-09 | | MarbleSkull: Is 18... dxe3 the blunder? |
|
Apr-21-09 | | Mulyahnto: <Interesting comment. My first thought at about move 20 was "this is absolutely equal, neither can win."> I imagine that b7 had to fall pretty soon after 21. Ba7, followed by the text move or even 22. Bb6 with the intend to put the white dark-squared-bishop on the b8-h2 diagonal along with the rooks on the c- and d-file. |

Apr-21-09 | | Anatoly21: Move 19 looks about equal to me.
20...Rab8?! I'm not sure what this accomplishes.
23...a5? The pawns must move together when backed by the rooks and under fire from the bishops or not at all. 24...Bc7?! Ugly moves are rarely good, and this just looks awkward. 26...Be5?! Be7 looks pretty necessary here in order to restrain the white pawns and possible rook advances. Maybe that's just me. 31...Ra4. Move is just fine, but the position looks tenable for Black. Nothing pleasant, but drawable. 35...Ba2?? This ends things painfully.
It looks like Grischuk lost this game more than the Shark winning it, but that's just how I see it. |

Apr-21-09 | | Jafar219: After the game Mamedyarov said 14..d4 was losing move for black |
|
Apr-21-09 | | WhiteRook48: and the white pieces crushed black |
|
Apr-21-09 | | muradov: Starting with 20. Bf3, Shark strikes with a series of tactical shots and simply knocks-out Grischuk. Well done, and keep it coming! |

Apr-21-09 | | scarfac3: Yeeee, time to cash in my chessbucks for 1. d4 :0) |
|
Apr-22-09 | | ahmadov: Hope this game will give him some morale to play good games for the rest of the tournament... |
|
Apr-25-09 | | shahjinan: < hellopolgar: i am just wondering here, how would Shakhriyar Mamedyarov feel if Alexander Grischuk started accusing him of cheating after this game...> Mamedyarov has proved himself in many tournaments...The other main thing is, it is a grandprix, held between 10 players not like the tournament in which 100s of players were participants and risk of cheating was high. Though Mamedyarov accused Kurnosov without any firm proof is shameful for sure...it didn't affect his amazing style of playing chess. |

 | | Mateo: There were two blunders at the end of this game.
1) 33...Ra2??. 34.f4 Bc7 35.f5! Bxf5 36.Bd5+. But Mamedyarov missed the point. I guess both players were in zeitnot. 2) 35...Ba2?? like <Anatoly21> pointed.After 36.f4 Bc7 37.Re7+ wins. |
