Jun-04-18
 | | ChessHigherCat: Still, it's mate in 3 if you count the interposed bishop. |
Jun-04-18 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: I made this unnecessarily difficult for myself. After not seeing the mate immediately, I looked at Bd5, which apparently wins a piece. Only after I convinced myself that Black definitely wins the piece right back did I return to looking for a mate ... and on the second try I did find it in a typical Monday seven-seconds-or-less. To add insult to injury, I checked the engine, and Bd5 is refuted even more easily than I thought. (Black sacs the exchange, never losing a piece in the first place.) |

 | | ChessHigherCat: <WorstPlayerEver: Second!> To quote a famous world-weary wiseacre:
<It may be funny if you read this kind of nonsense for the first time, yes. But after a while it gets somewhat weary.> |

Jun-04-18 | | WorstPlayerEver: <CHC>
At least it does not reveal an obsession with long-windedness IMHO. |

Jun-04-18 | | lost in space: I love Mondays!
36. Nxg6+ hxg6 (only move) 37. Qh4+ Bh6 (only move) 38. Qxh6# |
Jun-04-18 | | stst: Monday N-sac:
36.NxP+ hxN
37.Qh4+ Bh6
38.QxB#
The Black Q & B remain lookers-on, no action can be started. |
Jun-04-18
 | | agb2002: White has a bishop and a knight for the bishop pair and a pawn. Black threatens Bxf1.
The black king doesn't have legal moves. This leads to 36.Nxg6+ hxg6 37.Qh4+ Bh6 38.Qxh6#. |
Jun-04-18 | | saturn2: The puzzle could be:
find (the only) checks in the next 3 moves. |
Jun-04-18 | | jith1207: White should have played Nf4 in 34th move, which guarantees a win. Qg3 instead brought the position equal before black overlooked the threat and still lost by the text move! |
Jun-04-18 | | goodevans: 35...Bxd3??
Oops!
35...g5 and black is fine. |
Jun-04-18 | | cocker: I was going to say what <goodevans> said. |
Jun-04-18 | | malt: The key to the fortress 36.N:g6+ hg6
37.Qh4+ Bh6 38.Q:h6# |
Jun-04-18 | | Whitehat1963: I tried to make a queen sac work for about 20 to 30 seconds before seeing it was the knight that must be sacrificed. Then it was another easy Monday again. |

Jun-04-18 | | zb2cr: Mate in 3, all forced, beginning with 36. Nxg6+. |
Jun-04-18 | | thegoodanarchist: 36.Nxg6+ and it's "O'Boy" |
Jun-04-18 | | Patriot: It's kind of funny black resigned there as if she is saying "Ok she sees it!" |
Jun-04-18 | | King Harvest: Puzzle was easy... but mostly I wonder if Nelma's siblings have any children because then she'd be Auntie Lopes. Hey, it's a Monday level pun too. |
Jun-04-18
 | | gawain: I like puzzles where the king is mated out in the open, but I also like puzzles like this one where the king is surrounded by his own pieces which prove useless for defense. |
Jun-04-18 | | Strelets: 36.Nxg6+ and White wins by force. Black has no legal alternative to 36...hxg6 37.Qh4+ Bh6 38.Qxh6# |
Jun-04-18 | | lzromeu: 35.Nf4!!! what a masterpiece, uncommon for 1720 rating players. Black falls in a trap, g5 was needed, but blundered |
Jun-04-18
 | | ChessHigherCat: <takchess: Happy Monday All> Isn't that a contradiction in terms?
<King Harvest: I wonder if Nelma's siblings have any children because then she'd be Auntie Lopes.
Hey, it's a Monday level pun too.>
You wouldn't be the king of the corn harvest by any chance? |
Jun-04-18 | | CHESSTTCAMPS: The one available check leads to a forced mate-in-3. It has been a while since I've visited this forum. Can someone remind me if there is an index that allows direct access to previous puzzles of the day - preferably in reverse chronological order? Thanks. |
