moronovich: Nice to see a veteran stil playing like in his heydays.Congrats Boris !
Aug-24-08  Ron: It seems that after 26. .. Qd5 Black is going to win material in some way. A sharp game and I agree a very good game by Gelfand.
Aug-24-08  ex0duz: What happens if Black plays 23.Rxe6?
Aug-24-08  Ron: <ex0duz: What happens if Black plays 23.Rxe6?>

If Gelfand plays 23.... Rxe6 then he would fall into a deep trap which would start : 23 . .... Rxe6 24. Rxd4 Qxd4 25. Rd1 Qa7 (seems to be only safe square for the queen!) 26. Rd7 ... after this I looked at various variations and it seems that black will be down in material

Aug-24-08  ajile: 21.a5?

Takes away any White attack on the a file. After that Black combines threats to trade down pieces into a won endgame. The extra q-side pawn decides.

Aug-25-08  arsen387: Gelfand's first win over a superGM in a while. Seems like he's back. I missed 'this' Gelfand

ROFLMAO

Mar-10-09  blacksburg: Gelfand is a cheater. no one in the world is capable of defeating mamedyarov without using Rybka. just look at the game - <4...e6> - Rybka thinks this is a good move! no way Gelfand would have found this without using Rybka during the game. Gelfand should be reprimanded.
