Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-09-08  luzhin: Onischuk perhaps should have tried 21...Nh5:the game continuation led nowhere.
Jun-09-08  SniperOnG7: Wow, that was a wonderful idea playing Re1. It gives White the extra option of pushing through in the centre. In this line, from the games of Kramnik it already can be seen that Black has a full-time job looking after his Queenside. Now he has to take care against White's e4-e5 ambitions too. I gotta remember this for my games.
Jun-09-08  whiteshark: A possible continuation after <21...Nh5>:

Jun-09-08  shr0pshire: Rybka says what luzhin recommended, 21. Nh5 with black only marginally worse at 18 ply at +.18.

But I think positionally black is much worse. He doesn't have any pieces to attack with. His knight and bishop were cramped in the middle of the board before the sacrifice, and he cannot mobilize his pieces quick enough for the attack.

I personally think black went wrong at move 13. I think he got beat straight out of the opening and didn't have much to do with the sacrifice.

Jun-10-08  messachess: I do not know when the 'book' on this ends, but I take it that the position at move 16 was still in it. It would seem that Onischuk calculated on making the white K run and having an attack therefore. Exchange of Queens ended any chances for black. So, how much of this was 'book?'
Jun-10-08  Atking: I don't want dismich Volokitin's interesting Re1 concept but what's wrong with the natural 16...Bb4 ?
