Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-01-08  polarlumpensack: a lot of useless moves from Anand...
Jun-01-08  Bobsterman3000: Why 25.Rb1 instead of re3?

Was it so important to protect the offside pawn? Anand already had a large investment in the KS attack, so maybe he should have stayed with it...

Jun-01-08  Gilmoy: 25.R1e3 Qxb2 "prove it or lose". White has no mate, weak back rank, and N en prise. He can save the last two with Ne2, but that costs a tempo, same as 25.Rb1.

Anand's 27.Rh6!? threatens a perpetual: 27..Rxc3 (b2 is pinned) 28.Rxf6= (gxf6 29.Qxf6+ Rg7 30.Qd8+ Rg8=). Ivanchuk plays for a win: 27..d5 (slo-mo trade, opens diagonal for his B, 28.Rxf6? Qe7) 28.exd5 Qb6! (defends Rc7 and Nf6). Anand meekly retreats 30.Rh5 Bxd5, and ends up with the worse minor piece.
