Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-08-09  bengalcat47: In both of the games against Grau where Reti has the white pieces he seems to be teaching Grau some basic lessons in chess fundamentals! Here, in this example, Grau learns the hard way that bringing the Queen out too early can only lead to trouble.
Aug-15-11  foldyflops: Not unless Tal is the one bringing his Queen out early in the English!
May-29-14  Ulhumbrus: The move 3...Qxd5 brings the queen out early. However the move 4...c6 clears the square c7 as well as the diagonal a5-d8 and so prepares to withdraw the black queen to safety by ...Qa5 and ..Qc7 as in the game Max Weiss vs Blackburne, 1889. Irving Chernev annotates the latter game in one of his books, either <Logical chess move by move> or else < The most instructive games of chess ever played>

9 Bd2 threatens potentially the discovered attack Nd5 which prevents ...Qc7 in reply as the N on d5 controls the c7 square. This suggests that 9...Qc7 is necessary, before White can play Nd5.

After 11 Nd5 it is too late for 11...Qc7 as the N on d5 controls the c7 square so the queen has to withdraw to d8, incurring thereby a loss of three moves for development
