Nov-14-07  whiteshark: If <26...Qh4> white must decide if to h3 or to g3.
Nov-14-07  Atkins: 26...h5 then 27.h3 Qd6 for 28...Bc6
Nov-14-07  popski: Black have a draw with 27.Rc4 Ne5 28.Rc5 will he take it? :)
Nov-14-07  TITIKIZA: Guys, what are the machines saying about this position?
Nov-14-07  sallom89: scraficing the rook to a lower value piece was not a mistake ?:/
Nov-14-07  Jesspatrick: Gelfand might repeat moves here to gain a few moves toward the time control.
Nov-14-07  znprdx: <popski: Black have a draw with 27.Rc4 Ne5 28.Rc5 will he take it? :)> gee the odds are in your favor... but maybe Gelfand wants to post a knight on f5
Nov-14-07  Eyal: White can avoid repetition here by 28.Rce4.
Nov-14-07  newton296: Ill bet they were both in home prep until move 20. based on the fact that the slav has got to be fritzed out at least that far. And gelfand has played it for years.

really just about Everybody plays slav lately. some top guys anyway.

the list ; kramnik , anand , gelfand , topalov ,

Honza Cervenka: Why not Ra5 instead of Rc4?
Nov-14-07  Jesspatrick: Gutless.
Nov-14-07  whiteshark: Draw agreed. What a pity not to play <28...Qh4> :(
Nov-14-07  newton296: <Eyal: White can avoid repetition here by 28.Rce4.>

White should be happy with draw here. after ...Qh4 white has to loosen up the kingside with h3 and probably g3 to drive off the Q . So black has the more dangerous attack here imo.

Gelfand can win if he plays for it!

Nov-14-07  Eyal: <Honza Cervenka: Why not Ra5 instead of Rc4?> Probably 27.Ra5 Nxb4 28.Rxa7 Nc6 (or 28.Bxb4 Rxb4 29.Rxa7 Bc6).
Nov-14-07  newton296: pathetic !!

shows over ! called on account of bad nerves .

because for me , It's easy to see how Gelfand could have gone for a win here.

why not try ... Qh4 ?

Nov-14-07  KamikazeAttack: <moronovich: <Kamikazeattack> Kramnik Memorial !LOL ! But dont tell it to <acirce> he will get a heartattack :)>

I know, I know, "Kramnik Memorial" seems laffable but think about it. Still a loooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnng way away though.

Nov-14-07  znprdx: Once again all smoke and no fire - I don't know why anyone bothers to sponsor tournaments when the players refuse to engage themselves in a truly professional manner. This position was rife with possibilities...at least there was a clearcut result in the two games cited earlier.
Nov-14-07  newton296: kramnik memorial. wow ! there is a big salute to kramnik! can you imagine it not happening. If you have petrosian memorial. then kramnik memorial makes sense.

Just gotta adopt the no petroff rules to prevent fan fatigue. and it will be great.

And add in the anand memorial to be fair. thats gotta be at least 75 years away. people from india live a long time . like 100 years is easy for anand because he eats alot of rice and beans and fish .

Nov-14-07  Eyal: How about the Carlsen Memorial...
Nov-14-07  newton296: <Eyal: How about the Carlsen Memorial>

Now that is just silly. most will be long gone by that time! And more importantly a memorial tounament has got to be earned. Carlson hasn't even won a major tornament yet! As far as I know.

Nov-14-07  KamikazeAttack: To have a memorial, u have to be a chess great. Kramnik and Anand are the ones that fit the bill for now.
Nov-14-07  Eyal: I was only joking, of course, since people here seem to be in such a mood for planning memorials. The decision about the Carlsen memorial may be postponed to 2030.
Nov-14-07  ahmadov: Another draw :(
Nov-14-07  KamikazeAttack: This game is further proof that Gelfand is well & truly back top flight chess.

Gelfy is one of the strongest players in the world right now.

He has been very busy in the training room of late.
