WHITE TO MOVE

White decided to protect the attacked b2 pawn, and played 17.b3?, but as it turned out, this was a wasted move and White's attack lost momentum. Better would have been 17.Nd5!, and if then 17...Qxb2? 18.exf5 Bxf5 19.Rab1 Qxc2 20.Ne3! Qxd3 21.Rb3 Qe4 22.Ng5 Nxg5 23.Nxf5+, winning outright (see diagram below):

BLACK TO MOVE

Black played 28...f5?? throwing caution to the wind.

This was a critical moment of the game. Black's King is under a violent attack and a cautious defense was necessary. Therefore, 28...f6 was perhaps the correct defense. For example, 28...f6 29.Qf4 Ne3 30.Nxe3 Qxg5 31.Qxg5 fxg5 32.Rxf8 Kxf8 33.Nd5 Kg7, and Black would probably be able to hold his own in this ending (See diagram)
