tpstar: This was an exciting game to follow in real time. At 45. f4 Bf6 material is even, yet Black has BN vs NN (a Good Bishop to boot) plus an advantage in space. Then 48 ... Nd5!? gave up the Pa7 to activate the Black Queen; I wasn't sure about the compensation, moreover White's Queen was still threatening Black's Queenside Pawns. After 50. Qxa6 Qd7 Moro had 13 minutes while Leko had 10 minutes. Moro then used 5-6 minutes on 51. Nxf6, carefully evaluating the consequences because Black's QN tag team could prove dangerous. Instead of 52 ... Qh3 I expected 52 ... Qd3 playing for the trap 53. Qb7+!? Kh6 54. Qxb5?:

54 ... Ne4+ 55. Kf1/Ke1 Qxe2+! 56. Kxe2 Nxc3+ & 57 ... Nxb5 winning a piece.

Instead Leko played the finesse 52 ... Qh3 53. Ke1 Qd3 with that fork idea still in mind, but regaining the Pawn after 57 ... Qxa2 hitting the Ne2. White tried one last trap 58. h3 hoping for 58 ... Nh2?? 59. Qf2 but Black traded down to a perpetual right at the secondary time control.

Sep-21-07  kellmano: Seeing as everyone's playing the Scotch, I'd really like to see someone having a go at the Goring (i think it's called):

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 ed 4. c3 dc 5. Bc4 cb.

It'd be very interesting to see how a grandmaster handles defending when two pawns up.

Sep-21-07  DiscerningKing: 24. Re4!? Interesting
Apr-26-08  The Chess Express: <IIIIIIIIII: What a fantabulous game from Leko !!!>

Why thank you.

May-31-09  timhortons: When this game was played I think the issue was the 8.Bb3 of Moro which was never been use before in high profile game.
May-31-09  WhiteRook48: got lucky
