Aug-01-07  russep: That is a true pawn storm
Aug-01-07  percyblakeney: It looks a bit strange that van Wely's rating is given as 2714 in this and two other Biel games:

Van Wely vs Radjabov, 2007

Van Wely vs Judit Polgar, 2007

The career high (in van Wely's case from year 2001) is given also for his opponents in these games.

Aug-01-07  Eagleclaw: I have nothing against Van Wely,he is a good player but my instinct goes to Carlsen, he will definitely bounce
back...I hope.

chancho: Van wely is as good as he's ever going to get. Sky's the limit for Carlsen.
Aug-01-07  Marvol: Carlsen must be utterly confused after these last two rounds.

First he learns that a piece is worth more than kingside pawns. Then he learns that kingside pawns are worth more than a piece! o_@

Aug-01-07  AlexandraThess: <lostemperor>, thank you for the invitation. I am not really into ChessBookie's rules. I need to read the instructions.
Aug-06-07  dabearsrock1010: lost in all the commotion is the fact that this is a smashing good game by van wely and I am happy that he has this good game because it has been tough for him at these super gm tourneys lately
Aug-01-08  dumbgai: Enjoy this win Van Wely, because it's not going to happen ever again.
Aug-01-08  Alphastar: <dumbgai> Why are you on a personal crusade against van Wely?
Aug-01-08  dumbgai: <Alphastar> Oh, I'm not...I just find it amusing how organizers keep paying VW to humiliate himself against superior competition. Next year's Corus might be a break with him, as Smeets and Stellwagen will join the traditional Dutch punching bag team.
Aug-01-08  Hector Maluy: <dumbgai: Enjoy this win Van Wely, because it's not going to happen ever again.> If you are going to say something not nice to Van Wely, at least don't hide behind that screen name and let him know your real name.
Aug-01-08  Petrosianic: I think dumbgai is his real name.
Aug-01-08  dumbgai: We'll see if he beats Carlsen again. Rapid/blitz/blindfold/960 games do not count. And we'll see how Corus A 2009 goes. If I'm completely wrong then you guys can laugh at me all you like.

Do keep in mind that Carlsen is already about 180 Elo points ahead of Van Wely, and at 17 is rapidly improving while Van Wely at 35 has been steadily declining for several years now.

And before more accusations start flying, no I'm not a Carlsen fan. He's not listed as one of my favorite players. However, I am a fan of elite-level chess.

Oh and by the way this is an outstanding game, one of the best I've seen from Van Wely. Power to the pawns!

Aug-02-08  Alphastar: <dumbgai: <Alphastar> Oh, I'm not...I just find it amusing how organizers keep paying VW to humiliate himself against superior competition. Next year's Corus might be a break with him, as Smeets and Stellwagen will join the traditional Dutch punching bag team.>

Would you like me to bring up all the times (this year ONLY) when you said something negative about van Wely?

It's not like you're trying to be objective, since you only ever seem to be gathering 'evidence' of van Wely being a bad player, and ignoring everything that contradicts that view.

I just find it amusing that at first you claim <it's not going to happen ever again>, then, later on the same day, you're not so sure anymore: <We'll see if he beats Carlsen again>

I rest my case.

Aug-04-08  dumbgai: Wait, a Dutch fanboy accusing someone else of not being objective? It's people like you that keep getting Van Wely invites to tournaments where he doesn't belong. I don't think I need to comment any more on this page.

I don't know whether English is your first language, and if it isn't then it's not your fault if you didn't understand me correctly. By my statement that <We'll see if he beats Carlsen again> I mean that I'm certain he will not.

Dutch I'll give you, but how do you know he's a fanboy? Looks like you are trying to find yourself a way to stop defending your original silly comment.

Aug-04-08  Etienne: Ouch four connected passed pawns!
Aug-04-08  Petrosianic: <dumbgai> <We'll see if he beats Carlsen again I mean that I'm certain he will not.>

Yes, yes, but you were certain he wouldn't win this game. And if he does it again, you'll be certain that he won't do it again after that. It's ultimately meaningless. The kind of thing that if you're wrong about it often enough you'll eventually be right, but so what?

<I don't think I need to comment any more on this page.>

That's a promise, then.

Aug-04-08  dumbgai: <Petrosianic> A promise is a promise...yeah no more comments after this.

Actually I apologize for my silly Van Wely bashing, he's clearly a very strong player as this game shows. It's my fault for posting childish gibberish, I'll focus more on chess-related talk in the future. Peace.

Aug-18-08  daniellovesbeer: great game by van wely, carlsen may be stronger than him, but non of you is
Dec-08-08  Billy Vaughan: 48. e6+ connect four!
Jan-12-09  jovack: dumbgai's comments are entertaining.
why even let a troll drag you into a flame war
