Jun-26-07  Davolni: what is the losing line here? Can somebody give some details? Why not 21...Nxe1?

what happens Bxd6? fxg6? is that a real problem?

Jun-26-07  Sydro: 21...Nxe1+ 22.Rxe1 Bd7 23.Bg5 Qg7 24.Bxd8 Rxd8

White is full knight up.

If black tries 22...Qb6 white responds 23.Qe5 with mate threat which black has no good defense against

If black tries 22...Qh8 white responds 23.Qg5 which threatens 24.Bxg6 which black has no sufficient defense against.

Jun-26-07  Shadout Mapes: I think after 21...Nxe1 22.Rxe1, white is going to at least win the exchange. Bg5 is threatened, scewering the rook, but moving the queen away is too dangerous: 22...Qb6 23.Qe5 forcing 23...Bxh3+ 24.Kxh3 Qe6+ with a won ending, and 22...Qc6 23.Nd4 Qd7 24.Nf5 is devastating.
Jun-26-07  Davolni: too bad Vaganian wasn't able to at least draw this game, or win it. That would, I think, give him the victory for the whole tournament, wouldn't it?
Jun-27-07  refutor: i don't think it's too bad at all...khalifman played some interesting chess and deserved to win the tournament
Jun-28-07  ARMENIA: It is unfortunate that a player of Vaganian's caliber would play so poorly the last round which would decide the outcome of the entire tournament... Nevertheless, he would earn valuable rating points and get back in 2600 which is a shame that he dropped so low because of inactivity...

It is great to see a legendary player in action! He is the pride and legacy of Armenia and alongside with Petrosian he is the crown jewel of Armenia!

God Bless Armenia
