gawain: This game was selected as a puzzle by Leonard Barden for his Guardian chess column 28 October 2006.

After White's 42nd move Black has the white knight securely pinned. But how is he going to win it? A nice little plan!

(By the way I happen to be "Gawain" but I am not Gawain Jones.)

Jul-29-07  wouldpusher: After 45. ♖b4 Jones just needs to move his ♗ around d7 and e8, and then it's zugzwang for White.

This should have been entitled "UP FOR ANTE"!

Jul-29-07  wouldpusher: <apple pi> Whoops. Thanks for pointing that out. Funny I overlooked an obvious pawn move.

V Mladenovic vs A Brkic, 2001
Jul-29-07  wouldpusher: <Elxiddicus> Double blunder for me today. I think I should take a break from the PC and get some rest.

Thanks gawain, good to know

fm avari viraf: At one stage ,I thought Brkic would slain the Dragon but unfortunately, the Dragon was too strong for him.
Jul-29-07  ajile: Looks like White should have taken the draw on move 34. (Ke2)

kevin86: White was ahead at R+N vs B+B+P,but he succumbed to a powerful zugzwang finish.

Just another BRKIC in the wall-lol
