Sep-09-08  Everett: Yikes!
Sep-09-08  Shams: I gave up the Dutch because of stuff like this...what are you gonna do when that h-pawn breaks so early?

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: Just another everyday triple fork by a Bishop. Has anyone ever pulled off a quadruple? The Bishop would already have to attack one piece, but instead of capturing that, capture or move to another square from which it can attack three more.

fredthebear: This one would have been included in a Fred Reinfeld or Irving Chernev book without a doubt!
Oct-06-17  WorstPlayerEver: Fun game yes.
Dec-01-22  Brenin: An unusual triple B fork, backed up by a royal N fork, to finish the game. Very pretty!
Dec-01-22  morphynoman2: Nice!
Dec-01-22  PeterLalic: This game showcases the power of an advanced h-pawn. In my opinion, it is underused in the opening.

However, 3.h4 and even 2.h4 have recently gained more traction, ever since the rise of newer computer programs such as AlphaZero.

Alas, 1.h4 seems premature, even without consulting an engine.

The submitter of the game of the day showed restraint. Surely there is a tempting pun in the name Ouwendijk. I don't mean to call you Shirley.

I saw a game on YT with Naka playing the Leningrad Dutch as Black against this h pawn tactic. As Black you need to be prepared to either not castle or castle long, The h pawn push can be equalized by Black with careful play and likely is getting White behind in development.

FSR: Nothing better than seeing a Dutch Defense getting annihilated. In a game between two Dutchmen played in Amsterdam, as it happens. h4-h5-h6 on moves 3-5 is a striking idea, the sort of thing AlphaZero would love, but that you don't expect to see in a 2006 game. Encouraged by this win, Bosboom tried it again against Bacrot the following year, but unsuccessfully. M Bosboom vs Bacrot, 2007.
