plang: 8 Qb3 had been played in the draw Capablanca-Alekhine at AVRO a year earlier; 8 Qa4 was new. Reshevsky thought that 19 g4?! was too aggressive recommending 19 f3 instead. Reshevsky gives 36..e5!? an exclamation point claiming that the backwards pawn can be easily defended; I wonder how many modern GMs would agree? White was holding his own until 45 Nxd6?; 45 Rd5 was an alternative. White apparently underestimated the complications after 47..Nd4!. 54 Kh2..Rg8 55 Bxh6..Nf1+ 56 Kh1..Nd2 would not have helped White.
