  plang: 8 Qd2 is rarely played nowadays. 8..Nbc6 was new; 8..Qa4 had been played previously. 11 0-0 allowed Black to reach an endgame where after 14 c3 the White dark-squared bishop was passive and Black had active counterplay on the queenside. Timman was critical of 29 exf?! recommending instead 29 Nb3 when after 29..Rxc3 30 Nc5..Rxc5 31 Bxc5..Nc8 32 Rxb5..axb 33 exf..gxf 34 Rb1 White should not be in any danger. The final error was 38 Rb6?; after 38 Nxb7..Rxf5 39 Re1..Rf4 40 Nd6+..Kg6 41 Nxb5..axb 42 Rb1 the rook ending is likely drawn
