tpstar: Golly, these puns are getting better all the time. ;>D

This Advance Line against the Caro-Kann (e5/g4/h4/h5/f4) is a great way to overwhelm an unsuspecting opponent, albeit with some risk. I played it in the halcyon days of my youth (?!), but now I prefer the Panov-Botvinnik Attack as sharper. Note 21. Qf2 threatens 22. Nc6+ winning the Queen, and then if 28 ... exd5 29. Bxd5+! works as the Qc5 is pinned against the mate threat on a7. The finish is one of the few Double Checks in my career.

<SamAtoms1980> I've been doing this before you were born. =)

This was when I played First Board for the University of Michigan.

Oct-24-09  SugarDom: It's an exciting game and the pun is clever...

but i try to use only grandmaster's name...

If that wasn't the case, i can submit another 1000 puns just based on names...

Congrats, Tpstar anyways...

Oct-24-09  returnoftheking: Nice attack. You must have been very young, or confident or contempteous of the opponent, with all those pawn moves..:p

Btw, in addition to your analysis my computer comes up with the possible pawn sac 23..f6 and maybe ok. for black.

Oct-24-09  pulsar: Nice attack, <tpstar>. Congrats for the GOTD feature. :)

Richard Taylor: Good game, great plan of attack an a nice finish. I lost to Caro today (partly as I didn't really have good plan - planning etc is my big weakness apart from stupidity and old age!) and I came on to see some new way to play against it...and here is an example on the front page - which I had already played over...

The Panov-Bot perhaps...?

Oct-24-09  SamAtoms1980: <tpstar: <SamAtoms1980> I've been doing this before you were born. =)>

By "this" I meant those posts with interwoven song lyrics and game moves

I first saw it on the Carlsen page and got the impression that it was something you started only recently, but it looks like I was wrong

Oct-24-09  Bradah: It's should have been called Randy's Present. LOL.
Oct-24-09  DarthStapler: What happens if black doesn't take the pawn on b6?
Oct-24-09  Mr. President: Thanks for keeping my <ID> privately.

playground player: <tpstar> Wow! I like that! Sort of a Pickett's Charge that really worked. Very bold, advancing all those pawns and not castling the King. But sometimes the best defense is a good offense.
Oct-24-09  WhiteRook48: not a nice present
Oct-24-09  obientag: <tpstar> well played sir. I like it.
Oct-24-09  ComboKal: An all-out pawn blitz! I love it! Dangerous having your king exposed, but your opponent can't get anything going. He tried with 23. ...Nc4, but 24.b6 and 25.Nc5 were the winning moves.
Oct-24-09  Wayne Proudlove: Interesting.
Oct-24-09  randomsac: what's wrong with 22...Qxc3+

Phony Benoni: 22,,,Qxc3+ is a mistake because it allows 23.Rxc3, bringing the rook to a more active square.
Oct-25-09  Anthony1: @randomsac... lol, Qxc3 is a SOLID move :P
Oct-26-09  kevin86: Ouch! Double check and mate next...
