Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-01-10  r00ksac: Was ra7 on move 38 an oversight or maybe a typo?
Jan-02-10  swarmoflocusts: That is an interesting series of moves, and it seems very likely that they were transcribed incorrectly. However, the game appears in Fritz 11's database with the identical series of moves.

The position after 37.Nd2 is evaluated at -.81 for black. After 37...Qb8, 38.Rxb8 is an easy win for white, evaluated at 11.71. White, being a 2500, really shouldn't have missed that, therefore he must have been feeling generous, because 38.Ra7 is also a blunder (38.Rxb8 is the only non-losing move), as after 38...Bc5 39.Ra6 Bxf2 40.Kxf2 Rxd2+ black enjoys a -2.13 advantage. 38...Qd6, on the other hand, leads to a roughly even position at -.22.

My theory is that what actually occurred was 37...Qc7, after which 38.Ra7 and 38...Qd6 are the best moves, which get us back to our -.22 position.
