plang: Tiviakov is the leading exponent of the Worrall Attack (6 Qe2). Almasi did not choose 8..d5 in the spirit of the Marshall Attack which is the most popular continuation. Instead Almasi chose a Chigorin-like setup (..Na5,..c5,..Qc7). This seems to work to Black's advantage because the standard 12 Nbd2 isn't possible here with the bishop on c2 unprotected ad after 12 d5 the rook on d1 is not well placed. Tiviakov was critical of 12..c4?! recommending 12..Bd7 with close to equality. 16..Rfb8 was new; 16..Rfc8 was played in Tiviakov-Kkalifman Belgrade 1993 which ended in a draw. Tiviakov termed 19..h6?! "Probably the decisive mistake, as now Black cannot create any counterplay."; recommending either 19..Qd8 or 19..Nf6 instead. Tiviakov methodically won the c-pawn leaving him with a clearly winning advantage. After 37..Kg7?! the end came quickly; 37..Bc5 38 Qc3 would have been a tougher defense. Almasi resigned as there was no defense to the dual threats of 40 Bxd6 and 40 Re1.
