Oct-02-06  notyetagm: Must suck to be a top GM like Vaganian and lose to a hack attack down the h-file.
Dec-18-10  Everett: One possible finish is 29.Ke2 Qh5+ 30.Kf1 Qh1+ 31.Ke2 Qf3+ 32.Kf1 Ng4 and white is done.

GrahamClayton: Maybe Vaganian should have played 24.♕b6, hoping for 24...♕e2, when the Black Queen will find it difficut to make use of the open h-file?

  Sastre: The problem with 24.Qxb6 is <24...Rh1+ 25.Bxh1 Qh5 26.Kg2 Qh2+ 27.Kf3 Ne5+ 28.Ke4 Qh5 29.Bf3 exf3>.

plang: Yusupov had a great result scoring 8.5-3.5 on first board helping Germany to an unexpected clear second place finish behind Russia. White could have played 10 e4 but after 10..Qc5 11 Qe2..dxe 12 dxe..Qh5 the position would have been equal. After 10..Bxf3! and 11..d4 Yusupov had prevented the e4 break. 13 Bf4 would have been an improvement. With 20 b6? White underestimated Black's attacking chances; better would have been 20 h3..Ne5 21 Qa4..b6 22 g4..0-0 with even chances. The decisive error was 20 Qb5+? which took the pressure off of f7 allowing 22..hxg3; better was 20 Rab1.

Don't understand this type of bias - what is wrong with attacking games? Wish we had more of them. I thought this was a really nice game by Yusupov who took risks with Black and was rewarded.
