keypusher: In the tournament the year before Lasker preferred 8....Nf6.

Chigorin vs Lasker, 1895

Anyone know anything about this game? I assume it was an exhibition following the Lasker-Steinitz rematch.

Feb-28-13  TheFocus: In the book <The Collected Games of Emanuel Lasker> by Ken Whyld, it is dated January 21, but it has no explanation. Probably just an off-hand game.

At move 56.Ke4, Black announced mate in 8 by 56...Qd4+ 57.Kf3 Rf6+ 58.Kg3 Qf2+ 59.Kg4 Rf4+ 60.Kg5(or h5) Qh4+ 61.Kg6 Qf6+ and 62...Rh4 mate) From Shakhmaty zhurnal.

But <58.Kg3> is mate in 2. Comp says it's mate in 7: <56...Qd4+ 57.Kf3 Rf6+ 58.Kg2 Qf2+ 59.Kh3 Qf3+ 60.Kh4 Qf4+ 61.Kh3 Rh6+ 62.Kg2 Rh2#>
