Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-15-14  TheFocus: From a consultation simul in Birmingham, England on March 2, 1897.

Lasker scored +6=0-0.

Dec-23-21  Stolzenberg: One may compare the opening of this game with the Queen's Gambit Declined, Exchange Variation (D35): 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. cxd5 Nxd5 (4. ... exd5 is more popular.) 5. e4 Nf6 (5. ... Nxc3 6. bxc3 c5 is probably better.) and we reached this game after 5. ... e6 by transposition.

Now Lasker played the best move with 6. Nf3, as he did not need to be afraid of 6. ...c5. One may compare it to the Queen's Gambit Declined, Semi-Tarrasch Defense, Exchange Variation (D41): 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Sf6 4. Nf3 c5 5. cxd5 Nxd5 6. e4. Who would continue with 6. ... Nf6 here, which would lead to the a.m. position after 6. ... c5? Most players would prefer 6. ... Nxc3 7. bxc3 cxd4 8. cxd4 Bb4+ or 8. ... Nc6 instead or they would try 6. ... cxd4.
