Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-10-06  mjk: Hm, there's a middle of the board mate you don't see too often: ♕+♘.
Mar-10-06  Jim Bartle: Right, and I guess you can be confident you have a good position if you can take the queen with check, and you still have a better move.
Sep-08-06  Autoreparaturwerkbau: Funny final. Even after 13.Kc4 there's 13...b5#. Lovely.
Feb-24-07  Lupechmand: <Autoreparatur> Even after 13.Kc4 the mate happens by 13...Qc5#
Aug-23-07  beenthere240: If 13... b5+ 14. Kxd4.
Aug-23-07  alspookyd: What if 7. Be2? Does that hold whites position?
Aug-09-09  gambitking: If 7. B-K2, then 7. ...Kt-B3! 8. 0-0 B-B4 9. P-Q4 Q-K3! 10. B-K3 B-Q3!! Gives Black enough latent potential to generate a good attack on the kingside... or just see Gamman-Blackburne London 1869... <Gamman vs Blackburne, 1869;

  fredthebear: The final position seems to be a Dovetail - Knight Mate, but that term is difficult to find. (The supported queen gives checkmate on the diagonal, while the knight cuts off escape. Typically, the flight of the defeated king is obstructed by two of his own units.) It may well have a different name in non-English speaking countries.

Here is a good list w/examples of checkmates and other terms: https://old.chesstempo.com/tactical...

Do abstainers have a different term?
