Apr-08-15  kramnov: Nice Endgame maneuvering by Magnus!
Jan-26-22  Brenin: A very clever pun. It's a pity that the game was not played in Charlemagne's Aachen.
Jan-26-22  newzild: Nice grind by the young Magnus, and the pun almost works.
Jan-26-22  newzild: Nice grind by the young Magnus, and the pun almost works ('Karolus' means 'Charles' in Latin).

Breunor: OMG even as a young teenager Magnus could win crazy difficult endgames.

An Englishman: Good Evening: All right, after 28...Kf8 White has a 5:4 majority on the Queen side whilst Black 3:2 on the King side is useless. Therefore, Carlsen plays 29.Qxf6, getting rid of his majority and undoubling Black's King side pawns. And "all" he gets in return consists of the f5 square.

This kid is scary good. I think he has potential.

Jan-26-22  Brenin: <newzild>: I think the pun works rather well, certainly better than most one finds here. "Karolus Magnus et Leo Papa" is the title of an epic poem, in Latin and now mostly lost, about Charlemagne and Pope Leo III. One can clearly identify the two players with the two principal characters, the imperial might of one contrasted with the relative weakness of the other.

Teyss: Great pun, good and timely game seeing how Carlsen is performing in Tata Steel.

<An Englishman: This kid is scary good. I think he has potential.> Apparently he's playing a simul in Netherlands just now.

Jan-26-22  JohnBoy: Looks more like Papa was rolling stoned. Black list this rather than white played brilliantly.
Jan-27-22  eaglewing: I dislike 31. ... Rf8. Surrendering square g4 simply to the white King cannot be a good idea. Why not 31. ... h5?
