Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-04-09  jerseybob: Concerning black's 19..Bc6: if black is going to play f6, as he finally did two moves later, why not just do it now, 19..f6, preparing for 000 on the next move? True, white would now know where the enemy king lived, but the king doesn't have a peaceful life in the center either. But at least black could get the rooks united, and by keeping the Bishop on d7 he guards the weakened e6 square.

Matulovic sacrificed the exchange in the middle game and the players reached this ending.

66 a6 Rh7! the only move. Now there is no way for White to Queen a pawn. Recognising this, Matulovic manoeuvres and lays a trap.

72..Rh7?

Browne falls for it. The Rook had to give up the 7th rank: 72..Rf6+ 73 Kc5 Rh6(!) 74 a7+ Kb7 75 Bc8+ Ka8 =

73 a7+ Ka8 74 Kc7 +-
